Laikipia University traces its roots back to 1929 when it was founded as a whites-only primary school by British Colonial farmer and educationist, William Thomas Alfred Levet. The institution changed hands over the years, serving different roles, including training large-scale farmers and later as the Animal Husbandry and Industry Training Institute (AHITI).
In 1990, it became a campus of Egerton University, focusing on teacher training programs. Its growth over the decades led to its designation as a fully-fledged university on February 19, 2013, after receiving its Charter from President Mwai Kibaki. The university has since expanded its offerings and established itself as a key player in Kenya’s higher education landscape.
Laikipia University offers a wide range of academic programs from certificate to doctoral levels across several disciplines.
