Moi University School of Medicine (MUSOM) is located within the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) complex in Eldoret, Kenya. Established in 1988, MUSOM evolved from the Faculty of Health Sciences, which was divided into the School of Medicine and School of Public Health in 2005.

The Moi University School of Medicine (MUSOM) is situated at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) complex in Eldoret. Established in 1988 as a Faculty of Health Sciences, MUSOM has grown to include specialized schools such as the School of Public Health and the School of Dentistry. The School focuses on training health professionals within the community context, emphasizing self-directed learning, problem-solving, and effective communication.

MUSOM aims not only to provide curative care but also to promote disease prevention and health promotion through its community-oriented approach. The School is led by a Dean, supported by 18 Heads of Departments and various committees to ensure effective governance.

MUSOM offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs designed to equip students with practical and intellectual skills. The undergraduate programs include:

  • Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB)
  • Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy
  • Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science
  • Bachelor of Science in Medical Psychology

The school also offers 16 postgraduate programs, including:

  • Master of Medicine in Family Health
  • Master of Medicine in Child Health and Pediatrics
  • Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine
  • Master of Medicine in Orthopedic Surgery
  • Master of Science in International Health Research Ethics
  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Medical Education
  • PhD in Immunology

MUSOM employs an innovative, problem-based learning approach that focuses on the needs of students and the community, with elective terms allowing students to gain diverse perspectives in medicine through global partnerships.

MUSOM is integrated within the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, serving as its primary teaching hospital, which provides state-of-the-art clinical training opportunities. Additionally, MUSOM operates through a network of health facilities via the Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare (AMPATH) program, ensuring students gain practical experience in diverse healthcare settings.

The school is also home to one of the largest research centers in the region, focusing on areas such as HIV/AIDS, child health, and mental health, enhancing its reputation as a center for research and innovation.
