Nairobi Technical Training Institute began its journey in 1951 as “Modern High School,” initially serving the Asian community in Nairobi. Over the years, we have evolved from a high school into a leading technical training institution, opening our doors to all races after independence.

In 1953, the school was renamed “Technical High School” and has since focused on providing technical education across various disciplines, including Mechanical Engineering, Woodwork, Electrical, and Motor Vehicle Mechanics.

Today, NTTI stands as a leader in vocational education, fully supported by the government through grants, training equipment, and infrastructure. Our vision is to be a leader in globally competitive training in technical, vocational, and research sectors.

We continuously expand our facilities, such as our Centre of Excellence in Health and Applied Sciences, and modernize our infrastructure through collaborations with international partners. We take pride in our state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre and fully equipped engineering workshops.

At NTTI, we offer a wide range of diploma and certificate courses designed to meet the ever-changing demands of the global job market. Our programs include Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Plant Mechanics, Carpentry and Joinery, Woodwork, Motor Vehicle Mechanics, and more. We emphasize practical training in conjunction with academic excellence to prepare students for successful careers.

Our courses are offered under the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Services (KUCCPS), ensuring fair and merit-based admission. Our students benefit from cutting-edge facilities, including ultra-modern science laboratories equipped through partnerships with the African Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of Kenya. Additionally, we are expanding our Information Communication Technology (ICT) offerings and upgrading our engineering departments through collaborations with the Netherlands.

At Nairobi Technical Training Institute, we believe in the holistic development of our students. Our Games and Sports Department is active and well-regarded across Kenya, coordinating various activities through the Kenya Technical Training Institutes Sports Organization (KETTISO). Students can participate in a wide range of sports including handball, volleyball, rugby, football, hockey, and netball. Many of our athletes have excelled at regional and national levels, with some even qualifying to join Athletics Kenya for further training.

In addition to sports, our students can enjoy our excellent on-campus facilities such as the swimming pool, where they can relax, stay fit, or develop a career in athletics. We encourage all trainees to participate in extra-curricular activities as a way to build teamwork, leadership skills, and overall well-being.
