Hope Community Pre-School, located near Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, aims to provide education for the Batwa community and help them integrate into the local society. The Batwa, who were once the ‘keepers of the forest,’ were evicted from Bwindi when it became a national park in 1992. The school is self-funded and relies on donations for its development. It is situated close to Karungi Camp and the Nyebaremura briefing point for gorilla tracking.

Hope Community Pre-School is located on the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, between Nkuingo and the Rushaga visitor center, near Karungi Camp and about 1 km from Nyebaremura briefing point for mountain or gorilla tracking. The school is a self-funded initiative that relies on donations to provide education to the Batwa community and other underprivileged children in the region.

Hope Community Pre-School is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty by offering scholarships to children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Many families struggle to afford private school fees or access public schools due to long distances and poor road conditions, especially during the rainy season. The school aims to expand its support by developing boarding facilities and introducing adult education programs for the Batwa community.

Hope Community Pre-School operates under Hope Community School, which includes Hope Preparatory Pre- and Primary School in Rubuguri, rural Uganda. The school offers a structured early childhood education program, preparing young learners for primary school while fostering cultural awareness and community integration.

To accommodate growing enrollment, the school expanded its facilities, securing land in June 2017. With the help of fundraising efforts, two classroom blocks were built, providing seven classrooms. The new site became operational on May 28, 2018, significantly improving the learning environment for students and staff.

Future plans include further expanding educational support to cater to both children and adults in the community.

Hope Community Pre-School not only focuses on academics but also supports community-based activities to help students develop essential life skills. While specific extracurricular activities are not listed, the school’s broader mission includes:

  • Cultural preservation programs for the Batwa community

  • Community integration efforts to help students and families adapt to modern educational systems

  • Scholarship programs to ensure continuous learning opportunities for underprivileged children

As the school continues to grow, additional activities may be introduced to further enrich students’ educational experiences.
