About

Curriculum: Uganda National Examinations Board Curriculum (UNEB)

Medicare Health Professionals College (MHPC) is a leading private tertiary health training institution in Uganda, dedicated to producing high-quality, mid-level multidisciplinary health professionals. Established in 2002, the college was founded in response to the country’s shortage of skilled health workers.

Since its inception, MHPC has become one of Uganda’s most reputable health training colleges, recognized for its commitment to excellence, integrity, and service. The institution focuses on equipping students with the technical knowledge, clinical skills, and ethical values needed to transform healthcare delivery across the nation.

Medicare Health Professionals College Academics

The academic structure at Medicare Health Professionals College emphasizes both theory and practical training to produce competent and ethical health professionals. Lectures and theoretical learning take place at the college, while practical sessions are conducted at affiliated hospitals, health centers, and community sites to ensure that students gain hands-on experience in real clinical environments.

The college offers a variety of academic programs accredited by NCHE and the Allied Health Professionals Council. Diploma programs include Clinical Medicine and Community Health, Medical Laboratory Technology, Public Health Dentistry, Public Health, and Health Services Management. Certificate programs include Medical Laboratory Techniques, Environmental Health, and Dental Chair-Side Assisting. The diploma programs typically run for three years, while certificate programs take two years to complete.

Entry requirements vary depending on the level of study. Diploma applicants must have at least five credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at O-Level, along with two principal passes at A-Level in relevant science subjects or an equivalent qualification in a health training program. Certificate applicants must have a minimum of five passes in the same science subjects. The college also admits non-Ugandan students, with foreign qualifications assessed and approved by the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB).

Through its comprehensive and competency-based curriculum, MHPC ensures that graduates are well-prepared to deliver efficient, ethical, and patient-centered healthcare services both locally and globally.

Medicare Health Professionals College Co-curricular

Medicare Health Professionals College encourages active student participation beyond the classroom through a range of co-curricular and community engagement activities. The student Guild Council provides a platform for leadership development and fosters teamwork, accountability, and self-discipline. Students are involved in community outreach programs, health awareness campaigns, and service projects that allow them to apply their medical knowledge in real-life settings. These activities strengthen their sense of responsibility and social accountability while enhancing communication and problem-solving skills.

The college promotes values such as respect, professionalism, time management, and ethical practice among students and staff alike. Through mentorship programs, health camps, and collaborative projects, MHPC nurtures students who are not only skilled practitioners but also compassionate health workers committed to improving lives.

Medicare Health Professionals College Facilities

Medicare Health Professionals College offers a conducive and well-organized learning environment equipped with modern facilities that support both academic and practical training. The college maintains well-furnished classrooms, a stocked library, and dedicated laboratories for practical sessions. A skills laboratory enables students to practice medical procedures before applying them in real healthcare settings.

The college also provides accommodation and essential amenities that promote a comfortable and safe student life. Security guards, administrative staff, and support personnel ensure the smooth running of the institution. Partnerships with hospitals and health centers give students access to advanced clinical facilities for internships and hands-on training. These well-coordinated resources make MHPC one of Uganda’s most effective training centers for future healthcare professionals.

Medicare Health Professionals College History

Medicare Health Professionals College is fully accredited by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) as a Private Tertiary Institution under No. TI.PL003 and by the Allied Health Professionals Council of the Ministry of Health. Guided by the mission to train and provide high-quality mid-level multidisciplinary health workers, the college has continued to expand both in size and in academic diversity. From a single diploma program in Clinical Medicine and Community Health, MHPC has grown to include a variety of programs such as Laboratory Technology, Dental Public Health, Health Services Management, and Public Health at both diploma and certificate levels.

The college is governed by a professional Council and managed by a dedicated administrative team consisting of the Principal, Academic Registrar, Dean of Students, and departmental coordinators. A committed group of tutors, health instructors, and support staff ensure that students receive both academic and moral guidance throughout their studies. Students are also represented through an active Guild Council, which promotes leadership, participation, and student welfare.

MHPC continues to look toward the future with plans to expand its reach by opening upcountry branches, introducing advanced medical training such as surgical programs, and ultimately transforming into a University College. The college’s vision is to establish a self-sustaining institution that contributes to health knowledge creation and improved healthcare service delivery in Uganda.
