The Management Training and Advisory Centre (MTAC) is a corporate body under the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives (MTIC) in Uganda. Established in 1964 as a project of the Government of Uganda with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), MTAC was officially transformed into a statutory body through the MTAC Act of 1969.
With a strong legacy in skills development, enterprise support, and managerial training, MTAC is committed to nurturing entrepreneurs and equipping individuals with the skills needed to drive Uganda’s social and economic transformation.
MTAC offers a wide range of diploma and certificate programs in business, management, finance, administration, and vocational studies. Key programs include Human Resource Management, Public Administration, Accounting and Finance, Procurement and Logistics Management, Entrepreneurship and Business Management, Customs Clearing and Forwarding, and Records Keeping and Information Management.
In addition, vocational training is offered in areas such as Fashion and Design, Cookery and Bakery, Shoe Making, Carpentry, and Hairdressing. These programs are designed to provide both practical and theoretical knowledge, enabling graduates to thrive as professionals or entrepreneurs.
The Centre supplements academic learning with practical workshops, entrepreneurship clinics, and leadership development seminars. Through results-based management training, project proposal writing workshops, and digital skills enhancement programs, students are exposed to real-world scenarios that build critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities. The Centre also works closely with industries, government bodies, and communities to ensure learners gain both academic knowledge and hands-on experience relevant to today’s job market.
The Management Training and Advisory Centre provides modern lecture halls, ICT laboratories, and specialized training facilities to support effective learning. Its Nakawa main campus on Jinja Road serves as the headquarters, with regional campuses extending training access to learners across Uganda.
The institution also runs evening classes to accommodate working professionals and provides practical resources for vocational courses, including workshops for tailoring, baking, carpentry, and digital design.
Today, MTAC has grown into a leading management and business training hub with campuses across Uganda, including Arua, Gulu, Iganga, Soroti, Masaka, Mbale, Mbarara, Pader, Mpigi, and Mukono. The institution is driven by a clear vision of creating “a world of job creators and effective managers” and operates under the mission of “improving management performance and promoting enterprise development through training and consultancy.” With this approach, MTAC plays a crucial role in strengthening Uganda’s human capital, offering advisory services, and helping organizations enhance productivity and efficiency.
