It was founded in 1955, under the British Colonial Government Policy of training health workers to address and promote preventive, rehabilitative as well as curative care in Ugandan communities.
The school offers a comprehensive range of diploma programs designed to equip students with practical knowledge and professional competence in various health disciplines. Under the Direct Diploma Programmes, students can pursue diplomas in Nursing, Midwifery, Paediatrics, and Palliative Care.
The Extensor Diploma Programmes provide additional flexibility for learners seeking to upgrade their qualifications, including Diplomas in Comprehensive Nursing, Midwifery, Paediatrics and Child Health, Palliative Care, and an E-learning extension Diploma in Midwifery. These programs combine theoretical instruction with hands-on clinical practice, ensuring graduates are fully prepared to meet the healthcare needs of diverse populations.
Mulago School of Nursing and Midwifery is well-equipped to support high-quality education and training. The campus features a practical skills laboratory for hands-on learning, a well-stocked library for research and study, a computer laboratory for ICT-based learning, and reliable student accommodation.
