Curriculum: Uganda National Examinations Board Curriculum (UNEB)

Kampala University (KU) is a private, multi-campus university in Uganda, established by corporate professionals in February 1998. It opened its doors to pioneer students in October 1999 and has since grown into one of Uganda’s leading institutions of higher learning. The main campus is located at Ggaba, a peaceful southeastern suburb of Kampala. KU also operates campuses in Mutundwe, Masaka, Luweero, and Jinja, making quality education accessible to students across the country. The university was first licensed by the Ministry of Education and Sports in November 2000 and was officially granted a Charter on 23rd March 2016, solidifying its status as a recognized and accredited institution both nationally and internationally.

 

 

Kampala University | KU Academics

Kampala University offers a diverse range of academic programs designed to equip students with practical skills and knowledge for today’s competitive world. The university comprises several constituent schools, including the School of Industrial Art and Design, School of Computer Science and Information Technology, School of Business and Management, School of Education, School of Arts and Social Sciences, and the School of Nursing and Health Sciences. These programs are delivered across different campuses, with each school specializing in its respective field.

Currently, KU runs over 126 accredited undergraduate and postgraduate programs, with more than 10,000 students from over 20 nationalities enrolled. The university is committed to maintaining high academic standards, offering students a student-centered learning environment that promotes critical thinking, innovation, and research. Since its first graduation ceremony in 2003 with 141 graduates, KU has successfully graduated more than 35,000 students who have gone on to contribute meaningfully to society.

The university hosts cultural and social events such as the annual Cultural Gala, which celebrates the diversity of KU’s student body. Students also take part in national events such as World Tourism Day celebrations, allowing them to apply their skills in real-world settings.

Other co-curricular opportunities include talent shows, debates, leadership clubs, pageants like Mr. & Miss Kampala University, and music competitions. These activities foster creativity, cultural appreciation, and personal development, making campus life vibrant and inclusive.

Kampala University provides a range of facilities designed to support both academic and social life. The university has a well-stocked library at the main campus that serves students and staff across all programs. Accommodation is available for students on campus, with separate hostels for male and female students equipped with essential amenities to create a conducive living and learning environment. The university also ensures students’ health needs are met through an on-campus nurse, a doctor on call, and proximity to Mulago National Referral Hospital and other private clinics.

Sports and recreation are an integral part of student life at KU, with facilities for basketball, volleyball, handball, and badminton. Spiritual needs are catered to through chapels for Christians and a mosque for Muslim students, with additional places of worship nearby. Public transport connects the sub-urban campuses to Kampala City, making KU both accessible and convenient for students.
