Nkumba University Academics

Nkumba University offers a wide array of academic programs across undergraduate, diploma, certificate, and postgraduate levels. The university is organized into multiple schools and institutes, including the School of Computing & Informatics, School of Law, School of Social Sciences, School of Education, School of Sciences, School of Business Administration, School of Commercial Industrial Art & Design, Directorate of Postgraduate Studies, and the RoWash Institute. With over 130 programs ranging from diplomas to PhDs, students can pursue studies in emerging fields such as petroleum studies, mineral management, and technology. The university emphasizes competence, creativity, and character development while providing practical training and research opportunities guided by experienced faculty members.

Nkumba University Co-curricular

Nkumba University encourages student engagement in a variety of co-curricular and social activities that complement academic learning. Students participate in clubs, societies, talent shows, debates, cultural events, and community service initiatives. These activities help develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills while fostering cultural appreciation and personal growth. Nkumba University Facilities

Nkumba University | NKU operates a number of hostels within and outside the University campus. Nnaabagereka Hostel that is within the campus houses over 300 female students. Pan Africa Hostel and Mugejjera Hostel, located just outside the University precinct, are for male students. There are a number of other private hostels that offer decent and affordable accommodation for University students. One such hostel, Tirupati Hostel houses male students and provides transport to and from the University campus for students who reside there.

Nkumba University | NKU operates a Health Unit that is well-stocked with the requisite medication for students and staff. The University referral hospitals are Entebbe Hospital, which is 3 kilometers away from the University, and Mulago Hospital in Kampala.

The 7-story Nkumba University | NKU Main Library, still under construction, houses a modern IT Training Suite, an assortment of books, and e-resources. The Library engages in the acquisition, processing, organizing, storage, and dissemination of information in line with the broader mission of the University. The Law Library, which is adjacent to the Main University Library, is dedicated to law resources and the collection covers virtually all aspects of the law. All Library users are enjoined to abide by the standing rules and regulations of the Library that are intended to enhance a conducive reading and research environment.

Nkumba University History

Nkumba University operates under a vision “To be a leading national, regional, and global hub for academic and professional excellence” and a mission “To provide an environment that enables the cultivation of competence, confidence, creativity, and character in academic, professional, and social interactions.” Guided by values such as excellence, integrity, respect, innovativeness, equity, and teamwork, the university supports the government in skilling citizens and advancing research. Governance is managed through a structured system involving the Board of Trustees, University Council, and Management, ensuring strategic oversight, policy implementation, and efficient day-to-day operations. Over the years, NU has graduated over 25,000 students who now contribute to various sectors nationally and internationally.
