Want to Claim Your School?Centenary Vocational Training School (COWA) is a vocational institution under the Companionship of Works Association (COWA), founded in 1992 by Rev. Fr. Steve Collins of the Missionaries of Africa. The school was established to address the urgent needs of HIV/AIDS orphans in Uganda who were left without skills or opportunities to continue formal education after the death of their parents. Over time, COWA has expanded its reach to include all vulnerable youth from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds, providing them with life-changing vocational training to enable self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.
COWA provides a variety of vocational courses designed to equip students with practical skills that are directly applicable in the job market. The school offers programs in tailoring and garment making, hairdressing and beauty therapy, carpentry and joinery, catering and hotel management, among other vocational and life skills courses. All programs are structured to ensure students gain hands-on experience while meeting industry standards. The school is officially registered with the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Sports (MoESTS) and the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT), ensuring that its training meets national quality standards and equips graduates for real-world employment opportunities.
At COWA, co-curricular activities complement academic training to promote holistic development. Students participate in community service initiatives, life skills workshops, peer mentorship programs, and cultural and moral education sessions. These activities aim to build leadership, teamwork, and social responsibility, empowering students to become confident, responsible, and proactive members of their communities.
The school is equipped with specialized facilities to support practical learning and skills development. These include tailoring and garment-making workshops, hairdressing and beauty therapy studios, carpentry and woodworking workshops, and fully-equipped kitchens for catering and hospitality training. Additionally, classrooms and life skills training spaces provide a conducive environment for theoretical learning and personal development. The facilities are designed to ensure students receive hands-on experience in their chosen fields, preparing them effectively for employment or entrepreneurship after graduation.
Centenary Vocational Training School is committed to empowering vulnerable youth in Uganda through quality vocational and life skills education. Originally focused on HIV/AIDS orphans, the school now embraces all youth in need, helping them develop both practical skills and personal character. COWA’s vision is to nurture mature and empowered young men and women capable of making a positive impact in their own lives and in the broader community. Its mission is to promote the integral development of Uganda’s vulnerable youth through vocational training and life skills education, creating a foundation for sustainable livelihoods and social transformation.
