Curriculum:

St. Joseph Vocational Training Centre Kamuli is a government-recognized vocational training provider mandated to equip young people with technical skills and holistic development for future employment. Established in 1989, the institution was founded to empower youth and address community needs through practical and theoretical training. It is fully accredited by the Ministry of Education and Sports (MOES), Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT), and Uganda Business and Technical Examination Board (UBTEB). Over the years, it has grown into one of Uganda’s largest private vocational institutes, well-known for its commitment to excellence, discipline, and moral values.

St. Joseph Vocational Training Centre Kamuli Academics

The centre offers a wide range of vocational and professional training programs across fifteen departments. These include Building Science, Plumbing and Welding, Electrical Installation, Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Carpentry and Joinery, Tailoring and Garment Cutting, ICT, Business Management, Accountancy, Procurement and Supplies, Marketing, Catering and Hotel Management, Hairdressing and Beauty, Agriculture, and Driving. Each department is well-equipped with modern tools, machines, and resources to ensure students gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience.

Since its founding, student enrollment has grown significantly—from just 50 students in 2002 to more than 600 by 2012. Every year, hundreds of graduates transition into the labor market, contributing to Uganda’s workforce with practical skills and professional competence. The centre also emphasizes gender balance and is working towards achieving a 50-50 enrollment ratio between male and female students.

Beyond academics, St. Joseph Vocational Training Centre Kamuli provides students with numerous opportunities to develop leadership, teamwork, and life skills. Students are encouraged to participate in sports, music, and cultural activities, with facilities such as playgrounds, a brass band, and a jazz band available for recreational and creative expression. Spiritual growth and moral formation are also central to the institution, with pastoral care and Christian-based programs offered to strengthen students’ faith and values.

The school emphasizes the importance of personal and social education, encouraging students to cultivate responsibility, self-discipline, and resilience. Through leadership opportunities, community outreach, and extracurricular engagements, learners are prepared for life beyond school and nurtured into confident, responsible, and compassionate citizens.

St. Joseph Vocational Training Centre Kamuli is situated on 44 acres of land in Bukolobe Zone, along the Lubaga–Butangala Road, just 3 km from Kamuli Town and 60 km from Jinja. The expansive campus features separate workshops for all departments, fully equipped with modern machines and training materials. The centre also boasts agricultural facilities, including a demonstration farm with a variety of livestock and poultry, which provide both training opportunities and income-generating activities.

Other facilities include spacious classrooms, recreational grounds for sports and games, music bands, and production units for carpentry, metalwork, tailoring, and agriculture. These units not only train students but also produce high-quality goods that are competitive in local and national markets. By integrating academics with production and community service, the centre ensures that learners graduate with practical skills, entrepreneurial experience, and a spirit of self-reliance.

St. Joseph Vocational Training Centre Kamuli operates under the Jinja Catholic Diocese and is owned and managed by the Salesians of Don Bosco, an international religious society with institutes in over 130 countries. As a Catholic institution, it provides integral formation that caters to students’ intellectual, physical, social, and spiritual needs, guided by Gospel values and the example of Christ.

The centre’s mission is to accompany young people in their journey toward holistic development, equipping them with both technical skills and moral values for a life of dignity. Its vision is to be an institution where youth learn to act responsibly in all areas of life, contributing positively to society. With over 34 years of experience, the institution has remained committed to the dreams of its founders, continuously adapting to meet the evolving needs of Uganda’s youth.
