UConnect Academics
UConnect has transformed learning by distributing offline educational content through the RACHEL repository, which includes resources such as Khan Academy lessons, science and mathematics textbooks, offline Wikipedia, eBooks, and video tutorials. Schools with computers can easily share these resources via USB under the Creative Commons license, ensuring wide reach across Uganda and the East African region.
Teachers and head teachers are provided with low-cost laptops preloaded with RACHEL, GCFLearnFree, Allversity, and Practical Action resources, covering subjects such as agriculture, food processing, energy, construction, climate change, water resource management, and disaster preparedness. Training is provided on how to use these resources effectively, incorporating innovative teaching methodologies such as the flipped classroom to improve engagement between teachers, students, and learning materials.
UConnect Co-curricular
Beyond formal academics, UConnect encourages collaborative learning and knowledge sharing. Teachers are guided to share digital content with colleagues, students, and parents, fostering a culture of continuous learning and peer-to-peer support.
UConnect also engages in workshops and demonstrations for educators, NGO staff, ministry officials, and other stakeholders, showing how ICT tools can enhance teaching, learning, and community development. By integrating technology into everyday learning, UConnect equips students and teachers with practical digital skills that extend beyond the classroom and support lifelong learning initiatives.
UConnect Facilities
UConnect’s operational model revolves around providing refurbished computers and preloaded educational repositories to schools and educational organizations. While most beneficiaries are offsite, the organization maintains a network of trained staff and volunteers who support installation, maintenance, and networking of computer labs.
The laptops and resources supplied enable schools to run offline e-learning programs effectively, even in areas with limited or no internet access. Through these facilities, UConnect ensures that schools have the essential hardware and digital content needed to foster modern, technology-enabled education.
UConnect History
Currently, UConnect continues to focus on advancing public education in Uganda and the broader East African region. The organization works to improve educational efficiency and quality through ICT by providing relevant hardware, software, and training for teachers, schools, and communities. UConnect also supports networking for computer labs and helps schools secure internet connections where possible.
By combining technology provision with capacity building, UConnect ensures that students gain access to modern learning tools, while teachers are empowered to deliver engaging and interactive lessons that meet the demands of today’s education environment.
