Laikipia University History

Laikipia University has a distinguished history dating back to 1929, when it was established as a primary school by British colonial farmer and educationist William Thomas Alfred Levet. Over the years, the institution evolved through several phases, including serving as the Animal Husbandry and Industry Training Institute (AHITI), before becoming a campus of Egerton University in 1990, where it specialized in teacher education.

On 19 February 2013, the institution attained full university status after receiving its Charter, marking a significant milestone in its development. Today, Laikipia University stands as a vibrant center of higher learning, committed to producing competent graduates, advancing research and innovation, and making meaningful contributions to national and regional development through quality education and community service.
