The institution emphasizes biblical and theological training rooted in Reformed and evangelical traditions while being contextually adapted to African culture and society.
WTCSU offers a range of theological programs tailored to meet the needs of aspiring pastors, church leaders, and dedicated laypersons. Our Certificate in Theological Studies (1-year program) provides foundational theological understanding for ministry beginners. The Diploma in Theological Studies (2-year program) offers deeper training for effective ministry leadership.
The Bachelor of Arts in Theological Studies (BTH) (3-year degree) equips students with advanced biblical knowledge and leadership skills for impactful service. Each program integrates rigorous classroom instruction with practical ministry experiences, such as preaching, teaching, church planting, and community outreach, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for real-world pastoral challenges and culturally relevant ministry in Africa.
WTCSU emphasizes practical ministry training to complement academic learning, preparing students for effective service in African churches and communities. Students engage in church leadership training and mentorship, gaining hands-on guidance from experienced faculty. Preaching and teaching practice in local congregations hones communication skills, while church planting and community outreach projects foster innovative ministry approaches. Collaboration with visiting faculty and international ministry experts provides global perspectives and networking opportunities. These activities cultivate leadership, spiritual maturity, and a passion for gospel transformation, equipping students to address real-world challenges with biblical integrity and cultural sensitivity.
WTCSU provides essential facilities to support theological education and ministry training. Our classrooms are designed for interactive theological instruction, fostering deep engagement with Scripture. Worship centers offer spaces for practical preaching and ministry practice, equipping students for real-world service. A well-resourced library provides access to biblical texts, theological study aids, and digital resources to support research and learning. Students benefit from mentorship and guidance from both African and international faculty, creating a dynamic environment for spiritual and academic growth. These facilities ensure a conducive setting for training leaders who glorify God and advance His kingdom.
Founded in 1996 by Pastor Emma Kiwanuka after her studies at Westminster Seminary in California, WTCSU began with a vision to train African pastors and leaders grounded in Scripture and connected to local churches. Starting with classes at First Presbyterian Church in Kampala, the institution grew through partnerships with international supporters, establishing itself as a hub for Reformed and evangelical theological education. From its humble origins, WTCSU has expanded to serve a growing number of students, fostering biblically faithful leaders who impact churches and communities across Africa.
WTCSU aspires to remain a leading institution for transformative pastoral and leadership training, spreading a passion for God’s glory throughout Africa. We aim to expand our programs and facilities, deepen partnerships with international ministries, and train more leaders who build strong, Christ-centered churches. By staying true to our Reformed and evangelical roots while embracing African cultural contexts, we seek to empower graduates to transform societies through gospel-centered ministry and leadership.
