Kampala Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) is a reputable health science training institute established in 2013 with a core focus on building capacity in Uganda’s health sector. The institute aims to provide quality, affordable, and sustainable education while addressing the needs of economically disadvantaged students. As KIST grows, it plans to expand into a full-fledged university offering degree programs, contributing significantly to the development of skilled and ethical health professionals in Uganda and beyond.
KIST primarily offers diploma programs in health-related fields, with a strong emphasis on practical and professional training. The major course currently offered is the Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Community Health, designed to prepare students for impactful roles in healthcare delivery. In addition, the institute offers a Diploma in Health Services Management and a Diploma in Health Administration, both spanning two years and approved by the National Council for Higher Education.
Admission requirements include at least one principal pass at A-Level in subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Economics, History, or Entrepreneurship, along with two subsidiary passes in relevant subjects. Students follow curricula set by professional councils and are examined by the Uganda Allied Health Examination Board, ensuring their training meets national standards.
While the institute’s primary focus is on health education and practical skills, KIST encourages students to engage in activities that enhance teamwork, professional ethics, and community engagement. Through hands-on laboratory work, community health initiatives, and collaborative learning projects, students develop practical competencies that complement their academic knowledge, preparing them to contribute effectively to healthcare systems and society.
The institute is equipped with a modern skills laboratory designed to provide students with practical, hands-on training that meets the demands of the healthcare industry. Teaching aids and laboratory resources are carefully maintained to ensure students acquire relevant skills applicable to real-world healthcare challenges. As KIST continues to grow, it plans to expand its facilities further to accommodate additional programs and enhance the overall student learning experience.
Kampala Institute of Science and Technology is committed to nurturing highly skilled, innovative, and ethical health professionals capable of addressing contemporary health challenges. Its mission is to provide sustainable, quality education and research opportunities without excluding economically disadvantaged students.
Guided by a vision to evolve into a university that produces God-fearing, integrity-driven, and innovative graduates, KIST collaborates with similar institutions locally and internationally to enhance academic excellence and research in health and technology sectors.
