Jinja Vocational Training Institute

About

Curriculum: Uganda National Examinations Board Curriculum (UNEB)

Jinja Vocational Training Institute is a government-owned vocational institute in Jinja City, built in 1982 by the Government of Uganda in collaboration with the World Bank under the Second IDA Education Project. Originally supervised by the Ministry of Labour, it was transferred to the Ministry of Education and Sports in 1999 and now offers National Certificate-level training in trades including Building Construction, Automotive Mechanics, Electrical Installation, Fashion and Garment Design, and Woodwork Technology.

It holds a distinctive place in Uganda’s technical-training history: it is one of only two institutions nationally, alongside Nakawa Vocational Institute, helping to train BTVET instructors under Uganda’s Skilling Uganda programme — which was itself launched at JVTI in 2012.
