Buloba Teachers College
About
Curriculum: Uganda National Examinations Board Curriculum (UNEB)
Buloba Teachers College is a teacher-training college in Kiwumu, Buloba Parish, Wakiso District, about 17km from Kampala on the Kampala–Mityana Road. Founded in 1930 by Native Anglican Church missionaries with the support of the Church Missionary Society, on land donated by the late Ssenyonyi Nsibambi, it was originally established to train girls from religious and noble homes — admitting its first cohort of six girls in 1936 — before later expanding to admit boys.
The college is now managed by the Church of Uganda’s Namirembe Diocese and offers Certificate and Diploma programmes in teacher education to both residential and non-residential students, continuing nearly a century of training primary school teachers for Uganda and, historically, beyond its borders.
Buloba Teachers College Academics
Buloba Teachers College offers both Certificate and Diploma programs in teacher education. These programs are designed to equip students with strong pedagogical skills, effective classroom management techniques, and a holistic understanding of learner development. Courses are offered to both residential and non-residential students, making the college accessible to a wide range of learners from different backgrounds and regions. The college admits both male and female students of all religious denominations and ethnic groups, provided they respect and uphold the Christian values promoted by the institution.
Buloba Teachers College Co-curricular
The college promotes a balanced education that goes beyond academics by encouraging participation in co-curricular activities. Students engage in leadership development, community service, and faith-based initiatives that enhance moral character, teamwork, and personal growth. These activities complement the academic programs by nurturing well-rounded educators who are prepared to inspire and guide their future students.
Buloba Teachers College Facilities
The campus sits on the slopes of Kiwumu hill, with classrooms, a library, a computer laboratory, and residential accommodation for students choosing to board. Its Department of Professional Studies is the college’s largest by student population, and all students, regardless of subject specialism, study professional education subjects.
