Ntinda Vocational Training Institute (NTVTI) is a cutting-edge public institution under the Ministry of Education and Sports, established through collaboration between the Governments of South Korea and Uganda. Founded to serve job seekers, the unemployed, youth, and incumbent workers, NTVTI equips trainees with practical skills that enhance employability and entrepreneurship. Strategically located in Ntinda, just 3 km east of Kampala and adjacent to one of the city’s industrial zones, the institute provides trainees with direct interaction with industries relevant to their chosen fields.
NTVTI offers National Certificate Courses and Specialized Skills Short Courses designed to provide high-demand skills for the job market. The institute’s main areas of training include automotive mechanics, plumbing, welding, electricity, and fashion design. All programs are trainee-centered, combining theoretical instruction with hands-on practical projects and industrial attachments to ensure graduates are work-ready. The courses emphasize innovation, problem-solving, and technical expertise aligned with industry standards.
Beyond formal training, NTVTI encourages trainees to engage in co-curricular activities that foster leadership, teamwork, and creativity. Students participate in practical projects, innovation challenges, and industry simulations, which cultivate entrepreneurial thinking and prepare them for real-world problem-solving. These activities are essential in developing well-rounded graduates capable of adapting to dynamic work environments.
The institute is equipped with state-of-the-art workshops and laboratories for automotive mechanics, plumbing, welding, electricity, and fashion design. Modern machinery, training equipment, and practical project areas provide an environment where students can gain hands-on experience. Proximity to Kampala’s industrial zones further enhances learning, allowing students to engage directly with industry partners and gain practical insights into their respective trades.
NTVTI was established in 2014 with support from KOICA and UNOPS, with Korean experts assisting in the development of management and instructor guidelines. The institute’s vision is to become a center of excellence in providing relevant, quality skills for the world of work, while its mission focuses on delivering demand-driven training for customer satisfaction and technological advancement. NTVTI’s motto, “Skilling for Innovation and Excellence,” reflects its commitment to producing skilled professionals who contribute meaningfully to Uganda’s economy.
