About

Curriculum: Uganda National Examinations Board Curriculum (UNEB)

City Polytechnic Institute (CPI) is one of the leading technical institutions in East Africa, dedicated to producing highly skilled paraprofessional engineers ready to meet the demands of today’s rapidly evolving industries.

From computer networks and power supply systems to housing, water, and telecommunications infrastructure, CPI equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to design and implement real-world solutions. With a strong vision “to be the leading paraprofessional technical training institution in East Africa,” CPI has invested in modern structures and systems to ensure graduates are competitive in both local and regional markets.

City polytechnic Institute Academics

The engineering programs at City Polytechnic Institute are designed to combine academic rigor with practical training. The curriculum builds on foundational mathematics and physics covered at advanced level and introduces students to advanced courses such as Electrical Circuits, Analog and Digital Electronics, Computer Systems and Programming, Electrical Machines and Drives, Power Systems Engineering, Mobile Communications, Database Systems, and Web Design.

Each course is structured to enhance understanding, design capability, leadership, and communication skills. Students are also trained to critically question assumptions, evaluate approaches, and develop solutions that are both ethical and sustainable. CPI currently offers certificate and diploma programs in four major fields: Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Power Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Information Technology.

City polytechnic Institute Co-curricular

Beyond the classroom, CPI emphasizes teamwork, leadership, and project-based learning. Students participate in laboratory exercises, practice projects, and industrial training sessions that simulate real-world challenges. These co-curricular activities not only strengthen problem-solving skills but also prepare students to work effectively in teams, manage resources, and lead projects in professional settings. The institute also promotes innovation by encouraging students to apply their knowledge to emerging technologies, ensuring they graduate with a competitive edge.

City polytechnic Institute Facilities

CPI provides a learning environment that balances theory with practical experience. Students benefit from modern laboratories, workshops, and industrial practice sessions that prepare them for the technical challenges of the job market.

Each academic term includes 12 weeks of teaching with structured contact hours and assessments, ensuring students remain actively engaged in hands-on learning. These facilities support the institute’s vision of producing competent professionals capable of solving real-world engineering problems.

City polytechnic Institute History

City Polytechnic Institute stands today as a vibrant, student-centered institution that provides locally relevant engineering programs of international quality. The institute prioritizes practical, demand-driven education designed to meet the needs of industries in Uganda and across East Africa.

With a mission to train graduates who are market-ready and equipped with entrepreneurial, technical, and managerial skills, CPI plays a vital role in bridging the skills gap in engineering and technology. Its strong commitment to student success ensures that learners not only meet the initial requirements of a paraprofessional engineer but also gain transferable skills to support long-term career growth.
