Ruharo Vocational Training School (RVTS) is a leading vocational training institution owned by the Church of Uganda, Ankole Diocese. Established in 1981 with support from the Dutch Christian organization Evangelistic Omorep (EO), RVTS was initially created to support boys and girls orphaned by the 1979 war.
Over the past 28 years, RVTS has grown into a recognized center for vocational excellence, admitting P7, S4, S6 leavers, and other school dropouts. The school is strategically located in Ruharo Ward, Kamukuzi Division, Mbarara Town, along the Mbarara-Kasese Road, providing accessible education and skills training to the region.
RVTS offers a comprehensive range of vocational and business programs designed to equip students with practical skills for self-reliance and employment. The school provides Diploma and Certificate programs examined by Uganda Business and Technical Examination Board (UBTEB) and the Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT).
Business courses include National Diplomas in Secretarial Studies, Accountancy, and Office Management, while technical programs cover Civil and Building Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Fashion & Design.
Certificate courses include Building and Construction, Installation Systems and Maintenance, Automotive Mechanics, Plumbing, Catering & Hotel Management, and Fashion & Design. Additionally, RVTS offers short DIT module courses such as Carpentry and Joinery, Tailoring and Garment Design, Hairdressing, and Knitting, ranging from 6 to 9 months.
RVTS emphasizes practical, hands-on learning to complement theoretical knowledge. Students engage in workshops, real-world projects, and vocational modules that prepare them for immediate employment or entrepreneurship.
The school’s Christ-centered approach promotes discipline, integrity, and community service, encouraging learners to develop not only vocational skills but also strong ethical values. Programs are structured to reduce unemployment in the community and empower orphans and disadvantaged individuals with the skills necessary to become self-reliant.
Ruharo Vocational Training School provides well-equipped classrooms, workshops, and training spaces for all vocational and business programs. Technical labs and practical workshops allow students to gain hands-on experience in carpentry, tailoring, motor vehicle repair, electrical installation, catering, and more.
The school supports both day and boarding students, offering an environment conducive to learning and skill development. Affordable tuition fees and manageable payment modules make quality vocational education accessible to a wide range of learners.
RVTS’s mission is “Training for self-reliance and high integrity,” reflecting its commitment to nurturing skilled men and women capable of contributing to an integrated and sustainable economy.
The school aims to build a self-reliant community through Christ-centered work, addressing societal unemployment and empowering disadvantaged groups. RVTS instills values of integrity, respect, honesty, discipline, and excellence, ensuring that students graduate with both practical competencies and strong moral foundations.
