Word of Life International School
About
Curriculum: Cambridge International Curriculum (IGCSE, A-Levels)
Word of Life International School (WOLIS) is a private, Christian K–12 day school in Kitende, off Entebbe Road, run as a ministry of Word of Life Fellowship Uganda. Rather than following Uganda’s UNEB national curriculum, it is a registered Cambridge Assessment International Education centre, taking students through to Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge International AS Level and Cambridge International A Level — broadly the O-Level and A-Level equivalent for families wanting an internationally recognised qualification.
The school’s own motto, “Educating for Life and Eternity,” reflects its stated aim of building students academically, spiritually and practically, under what it calls its Know–Grow–Show framework. Word of Life Fellowship Uganda itself, led by Thomas and Faith Obunde, has run youth ministry in Uganda since 1997 and was formally registered in 2003; the school grew out of that wider ministry as families asked the Obundes to educate their own and other children together.
Word of Life International School Academics
Senior students (Grades 9–11) work toward Cambridge IGCSE in subjects including English, French, Literature, Modern History, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, before progressing to Cambridge International AS and A Level. The school has documented individual student success at this level: one former student received the Cambridge AICE Diploma with Merit in the November 2018 examination series, and another was named the school’s Class of 2017 valedictorian before going on to further study.
Word of Life International School Co-curricular
Students take part in a wide range of activities including sports, music, drama, debate and community service, with participation in the East Africa Model United Nations (EAMUN), the World Scholars’ Cup, and inter-school sports fixtures against schools including Kabojja International and Rainbow International. The school held a 2019 Science Fair under the theme “Displaying God’s Majesty through Science,” with pupil projects including an automated house, a water purification system and a hydraulic power demonstration.
Word of Life International School Facilities
The campus includes classrooms, science and computer laboratories, a library, a chapel, and dining facilities providing a hot lunch programme Monday to Friday, alongside sports fields and activity spaces.
