Curriculum: Uganda National Examinations Board Curriculum (UNEB)
Mbale College of Health Sciences, formerly Mbale School of Clinical Officers, is a government-founded tertiary health training institution in Mbale City, established in 1958. It began with a single medical-assisting programme and introduced its now-flagship Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Community Health in 1975, before formally taking its current name in 2019. Entry to its direct-entry diploma programmes requires the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).
The college has trained more than 15,000 graduates who now work across health facilities in Uganda and the wider East African region, and its own site describes it as producing “competent and compassionate health workers” through six UHPAB-accredited programmes.
Mbale College of Health Sciences Academics
Current programmes are the three-year Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Community Health, the Diploma in Clinical and Community Nutrition, and the Post Basic Diploma in Anaesthesia, plus two-year certificates in Pharmacy and Theatre Techniques. All programmes are periodically assessed and accredited by the Uganda Health Professions Assessment Board (UHPAB).
