Sweet Home Kyamudikya

About

Curriculum:

Sweet Home Kyamudikya is a sister school of Sweet Home Day Care and Nursery School, established in 2012 by David and Merianne in the small village of Kyamudikya. The school was founded to provide educational opportunities for children in a community where access to education was previously nonexistent and poverty levels were high. Around 50 children now benefit from free education, gaining access to learning that would otherwise be unavailable in their village.

Sweet Home Kyamudikya Academics

The school focuses on providing foundational education tailored to young learners. While details on specific subjects are limited, Sweet Home Kyamudikya emphasizes nurturing the whole child academically, intellectually, and socially. Teachers receive guidance and training, including support from overseas volunteers, to ensure children develop basic literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking skills necessary for their future education.

Sweet Home Kyamudikya Co-curricular

Sweet Home Kyamudikya encourages holistic development by focusing on areas beyond academics, including physical, social, emotional, and spiritual growth. Students are supported in activities that build confidence, teamwork, and personal development, laying the groundwork for well-rounded individuals.

Sweet Home Kyamudikya Facilities

Initially, the school operated in a temporary building constructed with bamboo and papyrus on land lent by a local resident. Despite limited infrastructure, the school provides a safe space for learning and development. Over time, the facilities have been supported and maintained by the founders, volunteers, and the community to ensure children have access to a functional educational environment.

Sweet Home Kyamudikya History

The school was initiated by David and Merianne after being invited by the local pastor, who sought educational opportunities for village children. Starting with minimal resources—no running water or electricity and a temporary building made of bamboo and papyrus—the founders, together with volunteers and the local community, created a safe learning environment. Sweet Home Kyamudikya’s mission is to nurture the whole child and provide opportunities that transform lives, especially for those coming from underprivileged backgrounds.
