About

Curriculum: International Baccalaureate (IB)

The International School of Uganda (ISU) is a co-educational day school located on a green, serene campus in the Lubowa neighborhood of Kampala. Established in 1967, ISU is the oldest international school in Uganda and a not-for-profit, parent-owned institution. The school community represents over 60 nationalities, creating a vibrant multicultural environment that celebrates diversity. ISU is dedicated to providing world-class, holistic education that inspires students to reach their full potential, become life-long learners, and develop into responsible global citizens capable of shaping the future. The school accepts children from as young as 2½ years in its Early Childhood program.

International School Of Uganda Academics

ISU is the only school in Uganda offering all three International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for ages 3–11, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for ages 11–16, and the Diploma Programme (DP) for ages 16–19. The Junior School, from Early Childhood to Grade 5, follows the PYP curriculum, which emphasizes academic, social, physical, emotional, and cultural development through structured inquiry.

In the Senior School, Grades 6–10 follow the IB MYP, which develops critical thinking, communication skills, and inter-disciplinary learning. Grades 11 and 12 undertake the IB Diploma Programme, widely regarded as the “gold standard” of secondary education, challenging students academically while broadening their horizons and preparing them for higher education globally.

International School Of Uganda Co-curricular

ISU strongly emphasizes co-curricular and extra-curricular development to complement academic learning. Students participate in sports and cultural activities, with teams competing annually in ISSEA (International Schools of Southern and Eastern Africa) and ISSAK (International School’s Sports Association Kampala) leagues. After School Activities (ASAs) extend learning opportunities, offering programs in competitive and noncompetitive sports, dance, the arts, academic enrichment, martial arts, life skills, and cultural pursuits. These activities foster new skill development, personal growth, and team spirit.

International School Of Uganda Facilities

The International School of Uganda boasts modern facilities to support both academic and extracurricular programs. The campus features four libraries—the Junior, Secondary, Uganda, and Early Childhood libraries—interconnected through a comprehensive library software system. The libraries provide access to print and digital resources that support the IB PYP, MYP, and DP curricula, fostering a love of reading and life-long learning. Additional facilities include well-equipped classrooms, sports fields, swimming pools, performance spaces for arts and drama, and laboratories, all designed to create a safe, engaging, and stimulating environment for students.

International School Of Uganda History

ISU aims to provide a holistic, world-class education in a multicultural setting. The school fosters a learning environment that encourages intellectual growth, creativity, and personal responsibility, while promoting ethical and global awareness. With a long history of excellence, ISU equips students not only academically but also socially and emotionally, helping them become independent thinkers, collaborative leaders, and responsible citizens in a global context.

The most important day of a person’s education is the first day of school, not Graduation Day.
