Arua School of Comprehensive Nursing

About

Curriculum: Uganda National Examinations Board Curriculum (UNEB)

Arua School of Comprehensive Nursing is a government-owned health training institution under Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports, and the only public institution training nurses and midwives in the West Nile sub-region. Established in 1972, it now trains more than 900 students under the national examination system, UNMEB, with its programmes fully recognised by the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council.

Training is carried out in direct partnership with Arua Regional Referral Hospital, which serves as the school’s clinical training site — giving students hands-on placement experience throughout their course rather than only classroom instruction.

Arua School of Comprehensive Nursing Academics

The school offers a Certificate in Enrolled Comprehensive Nursing and Diplomas in Comprehensive Nursing, General Nursing and Midwifery, including extension routes for practising nurses upgrading their qualifications. Its students also compete in the annual Uganda Health Training Institutions Mind Games chess competition, alongside other health-training institutions nationally.

Arua School of Comprehensive Nursing Co-curricular

Arua School of Comprehensive Nursing emphasizes holistic development of its students beyond classroom learning. Through community health outreach programs, clinical rotations, and public health initiatives, students gain practical experience in real-world healthcare settings.

These activities foster professional responsibility, teamwork, and leadership skills, preparing graduates to function effectively in diverse healthcare environments.

Arua School of Comprehensive Nursing Facilities

The campus, adjacent to Arua Regional Referral Hospital, includes an ICT laboratory, nursing demonstration and practical training facilities, the 200-bed girls’ hostel commissioned in 2022, and rainwater harvesting infrastructure supporting the campus water supply.
