Established in 2007 with just 35 students, AfRU has grown into a chartered institution with over 800 students from across East and Central Africa and beyond.

Guided by the vision “To be a premier Christian University focused on Transformational Leadership for the Church and Society,” AfRU integrates faith and academics to ensure graduates are not only equipped with professional skills but also with integrity, character, and a heart to serve.

Africa Renewal University Co-curricular

Beyond academics, AfRU emphasizes spiritual formation, leadership development, and community engagement. Students participate in discipleship programs, mission outreaches, mentorship initiatives, and student fellowships that nurture servant leadership and strengthen their commitment to Christ.

The university also values diversity, drawing students from multiple countries and cultural backgrounds, and fostering a vibrant campus community that equips learners to serve both locally and globally. Through extracurricular activities, AfRU cultivates teamwork, innovation, and a sense of purpose among students, preparing them for leadership in schools, churches, hospitals, NGOs, startups, and government institutions.

Africa Renewal University Facilities

AfRU provides a conducive environment for both academic and spiritual growth. The university campus is equipped with lecture halls, computer and multimedia labs, a library with theological and academic resources, and worship centers that integrate spiritual life into daily learning.

Student housing, dining services, and recreational spaces contribute to a holistic student experience. The institution continues to expand its infrastructure and digital learning capabilities to meet the growing demand for higher education and to serve its diverse student body from across Africa.

Africa Renewal University History

Africa Renewal University was founded out of Africa’s urgent need for Christian leaders who could bring hope, transformation, and integrity into society. What began as Gaba Bible Institute has expanded into a fully chartered university with a mission “to develop a new generation of Christian leaders whose lives are transformed by rigorous study of Scripture, impassioned love for God, and faithful service to the nations.” Today, AfRU has alumni serving in Uganda and beyond as pastors, educators, entrepreneurs, healthcare professionals, and community leaders.

The university’s foundation is built on strong core values: Christ-centeredness, excellence, integrity, servant leadership, and community. Its Statement of Faith, rooted in Scripture and adopted from The Gospel Coalition’s Confessional Statement, ensures a solid biblical foundation for both learning and leadership development.
