Kumi University (KUMU) is a private, Christian-based higher education institution located in the scenic countryside of Kumi District, Eastern Uganda, near the famous Nyero Rock Paintings. Founded in 1999 by Korean missionary couple Hyeong Lyeol Lyu and Mrs. Minja Lee, KUMU evolved from the African Leaders’ Training Institute (ALTI), established in 1996 to meet the educational needs of the local community.

The university provides quality, affordable, and community-tailored higher education that integrates academic excellence with Christian virtues, ethical growth, and leadership development. Kumi University aims to transform individuals and communities through holistic education, equipping students with spiritual, intellectual, and practical competencies.

Kumi University offers a diverse range of academic programs across undergraduate, postgraduate diploma, and higher education access certificate levels. The university operates three main study schedules: full-time programs for direct entrants from O and A levels, weekend programs for busy executives, and external programs for in-service teachers. Its faculties include the Faculty of Education and Languages, Faculty of Computing and Information Technology, Faculty of Social Sciences and Management Studies, and a Faculty of Medicine currently in planning.
