St. Theresa Kisubi Girls’ Primary School Academics

The school follows Uganda’s national primary curriculum — thematic teaching for Primary 1–3, transitioning to subject-based teaching from Primary 4 — and has a long-documented PLE record: a 1912 Daily Monitor national table placed the school 101st nationally with a 91% pass rate, and pupils from the school have continued to reach top marks in recent years, including Aggregate 6 results in both the 2024 and 2025 PLE.

Co-curricular activities form an essential part of life at St. Theresa Kisubi Girls’ Primary School. Pupils actively participate in music, dance, and drama, as well as Girl Guides and sports programs. The school promotes leadership, creativity, and teamwork through clubs and outdoor activities. This year, a group of 15 Girl Guides will attend a seven-day camping trip at Kaazi, while Primary Six and Seven pupils will take an educational tour to Murchison Falls. Such experiences broaden their horizons beyond the classroom.

The school’s grounds include a children’s play area, a library, boarding dormitories, and self-reliance project spaces for gardening, piggery, poultry and rabbit rearing, alongside a chapel for prayer and worship.

St. Theresa Kisubi Girls’ Primary School History

• 1915 — Founded by the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Africa (White Sisters).
• 1922 — Boys first began attending informal classes alongside the girls.
• 1931 — A girls’ boarding section was formally introduced.
• 1957 — The Catholic Church decided the school would become permanently girls-only.
• 1971 — Administration transferred to the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Reparatrix (Ggogonya).
• 2023 — A lightning-caused fire destroyed the Primary Four dormitory; all pupils were safely evacuated with no injuries, and the school has since fundraised — including through an exhibition of pupils’ own craft and tailoring work — to rebuild.

Notable former pupils include Elisabeth Bakibinga, Legal Advisor to the Commonwealth Secretariat in London; Judith Muhongerwa, Director of Human Resources at BRD Bank, Rwanda; Flavia Tumusiime, the well-known NTV Uganda news anchor; and Christine Wekesa, Legal Advisor to the East African Community Secretariat.
