The school was later taken over by the Government, and today, it proudly continues its legacy under the patronage of Prince Mulondo Besweri, the son of the late founder. From its early days, the school has evolved into a Grade 1 institution, serving as a model for the Government’s Universal Primary Education (UPE) Program and standing as a testament to an enduring commitment to accessible and quality education.
Kyankowe Day and Boarding Primary School adheres to the National Curriculum, delivering a balanced education across all subjects to ensure students excel in the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) at the end of Primary 7. From Primary 1 to 3, the curriculum includes News, Literature, Mathematics, Physical Education, Oral Subjects, English Language, Religious Education, Music, Dance and Drama, and Art and Craft, with timetables running from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM (Primary 1–2) and 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (Primary 3). For Primary 4, subjects encompass English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Religious Education, Physical Education, Art and Craft, and Luganda. Primary 5–7 features English, Science, Social Studies, Mathematics, Religious Education, Physical Education, Luganda, Music, Dance and Drama, and Art and Craft, with extended timetables from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM for day scholars and up to 9:00 PM for boarders, including evening and night preps. The schedule incorporates prayers, debates, and quizzes, overseen by Madam Namiiro Hanipher and duty teachers, aligning with government policies for quality education.
At Kyankowe, co-curricular activities are vital for awakening young minds and promoting holistic growth. Students participate in games and sports, including football, netball, and athletics, organized through inter-house competitions among four houses. Music, Dance, and Drama (MDD) events, along with indoor games, foster creativity and teamwork. These activities, held from 4:00 PM daily, enhance physical fitness, social skills, and intellectual engagement. Evening preps from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM and night preps from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM for boarders complement the schedule, while debates and quizzes build confidence and critical thinking. Winning houses receive trophies and prizes, encouraging healthy competition and pride in achievement.
Kyankowe boasts well-maintained facilities designed for optimal learning and living. Five permanent buildings accommodate all classes from Primary 1 to 7, the nursery section, head teacher’s office, library, and bursar’s office. Two dormitories—one for boys and one for girls—provide comfortable boarding accommodations. Six teachers’ residential units, including homes for the head teacher and deputy head teachers, ensure all staff reside on-site for immediate support. The campus supports daily routines with timetabled preps and co-curricular spaces, creating a secure and conducive environment for holistic student development.
