About
Curriculum: Uganda National Examinations Board Curriculum (UNEB)
Mengo School of Nursing and Midwifery is a faith-based nursing and midwifery training institution attached to Mengo Hospital in Kampala, and by its own account the first and oldest school of its kind in Uganda and East Africa. It was founded in 1919 by Mrs. Catherine Cook, wife of Dr. Albert Ruskin Cook, the founder of Mengo Hospital itself, beginning with a group of eight enrolled midwives; nurse training followed in 1928.
More than a century later, the school states its mission as producing “highly competent and responsible nurses with positive attitudes, guided by Christian values, to deliver holistic health care services,” and remains affiliated with the Ministry of Education and Sports, the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Examination Board, the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council, and the Uganda Protestant Medical Bureau. The Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council currently lists the school as fully registered.

Mengo School Of Nursing And Midwifrey Co-curricular
Beyond academics, Mengo Hospital School of Nursing and Midwifery emphasizes the development of well-rounded professionals through co-curricular engagement. Students participate in mentorship programs, community health outreaches, and spiritual fellowships that reinforce Christian values of service and compassion.
Regular workshops, seminars, and research discussions help students stay updated on advances in nursing science and healthcare delivery. Through these activities, the school cultivates not only skilled nurses and midwives but also leaders and advocates for better health outcomes in Uganda and beyond.
Mengo School Of Nursing And Midwifrey Facilities
Being physically attached to Mengo Hospital gives students direct clinical placement and hands-on experience in patient care from early in their training. The training institute has recently completed a new five-storey classroom complex, built in response to growing demand and to address a longstanding space shortage that had previously turned away prospective students.
