Gayaza Junior School is a government-aided, Anglican Church-founded girls’ boarding primary school and is the oldest of its kind in Uganda. Located along Gayaza Road, 14 km east of Kampala, the school was established in 1905 by the Church Missionary Society with an initial enrolment of four girls. Originally intended for daughters of chiefs and highly placed societal figures, Gayaza Junior School has evolved into an international institution that blends its rich historical legacy with modern educational practices. The school emphasizes both academic and social excellence as part of its longstanding tradition.

Gayaza Junior School Academics

Gayaza Junior School aims to nurture responsible and self-reliant young women. The school provides primary education from P1 to P7, structured into 18 streams, with strong guidance and management from a School Management Committee, School Development and Planning Committee, Headmistress, two deputies, thirty teachers, and eighty support staff. Academic excellence is a core value, and the curriculum is designed to equip pupils with skills and knowledge relevant to the demands of the 21st century.

Gayaza Junior School Co-curricular

The school offers a rich variety of co-curricular activities designed to foster creativity, teamwork, and physical development. Craft lessons teach students skills such as making baskets, mats, tablecloths, doormats, bags, necklaces, sweaters, tie-and-dye items, and wall mats. Sports are an integral part of school life, with activities including netball, volleyball, athletics, and other field events. Inter-house sports competitions culminate in celebrations, often awarding the winning house with a live bull, fostering school spirit and camaraderie among pupils.

Gayaza Junior School Facilities

The school boasts modern facilities to support its academic and extracurricular programs. The Nabagereka Sylvia Nagginda complex features a spacious, well-equipped library and computer laboratory. The dining hall has been expanded to accommodate the growing student population. The Centenary complex (Kibuuka Margaret Najjemba) includes over twelve additional classrooms, a staff room with conference facilities, and a language laboratory equipped with audiovisual materials such as televisions and radios. These facilities enhance learning, creativity, and student engagement across all areas of school life.
