About

Curriculum:

Hornby High School, located in Kabale District, Uganda, is a beacon of inclusive education, founded in 1923 and renowned for its Braille Class established in 1969 by the Royal Commonwealth Society for the Blind. Starting with just four primary-level students, the class was elevated to secondary level in 1992, and today serves over 30 students—12 girls and 18 boys—across all secondary levels from districts throughout Uganda and neighboring countries. Recognized as one of Uganda’s most successful Braille programs, Hornby empowers visually impaired youth through dedicated staff, specialized training, and essential resources. Our mission is to provide access to quality education, fostering skills, self-esteem, and independence, ensuring these vulnerable students overcome poverty, discrimination, and mistreatment to build secure, fulfilling futures.
