Old Kampala Senior Secondary school

About

Old Kampala Senior Secondary School is a government, mixed day secondary school offering both O-Level and A-Level education. Founded in 1932 by Asian educators K.D. Gupta and B.D. Gupta, originally from Bengal, India, with K.D. Gupta serving as first headmaster, it grew into one of Uganda’s most historically significant schools, producing generations of the country’s civic and military leadership. In its early decades the school was also reportedly the first Cambridge examination centre in East Africa, drawing candidates from other well-known schools to sit exams there.

The school weathered a difficult period after the 1972 expulsion of Uganda’s Asian community, which took many staff and students with it, and its long recovery since has been led in significant part by its own alumni association.

Old Kampala Senior Secondary school Academics

The school offers the full Uganda national curriculum at O-Level and A-Level, with UCE and UACE candidates registered under the school in Kampala district each year. Its strongest documented academic period was the 1960s–70s, when it regularly produced around 30 first-grade O-Level passes out of 45 or more candidates, particularly in the sciences.
