Jinja Christian School Academics

Jinja Christian School adheres to the Ugandan National Curriculum, spanning Nursery to Primary Seven, with a distinctive focus on teaching for understanding. Our curriculum includes core subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Religious Education, preparing students for the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) while fostering deep comprehension.

Guided by founders Anne and Ron Matheson, our Ugandan teaching staff employs active learning methods, using physical learning aids, diverse stimuli, and opportunities for students to articulate their understanding in varied ways. Through ongoing teacher training, we develop innovative strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles, ensuring every child engages meaningfully with the material and builds a strong academic foundation rooted in Christian values.

Jinja Christian School offers a welcoming campus in Wairaka village, designed to support active learning and holistic growth. Our classrooms are equipped with physical learning aids and resources to facilitate interactive, child-centered education. Playgrounds support sports and outdoor activities, promoting physical fitness and teamwork. Dedicated spaces for music, art, and drama foster creativity, while a prayer area supports spiritual activities. Basic but functional facilities, including areas for meals and rest, ensure a safe, nurturing environment where students from diverse backgrounds can thrive academically and personally.

Jinja Christian School History

Jinja Christian School was founded in late 2012 by Anne and Ron Matheson, Australian educators with over 50 years of teaching experience, who sought to bring quality Christian education to Jinja District. Opening its doors on February 4, 2013, in Wairaka village, the school quickly became a vital resource for local and district-wide families. By combining the expertise of Ugandan teachers with innovative teaching strategies, we have created a nurturing environment that emphasizes understanding, faith, and community, setting a strong foundation for our students’ futures.
