Pioneer High School, located in Mityana District, central Uganda, was the second school funded by the Costa Foundation. Mityana is a major coffee-growing area, and prior to the school’s establishment, there were no secondary schools serving 15 local primary schools, leaving nearly 300 students without options to continue their education each year.
The school was founded to address high drop-out rates, particularly among girls, who previously faced long, dangerous, and demoralizing journeys to distant secondary schools. The provision of low fees and free lunch ensures access for children from families living below the poverty line.
