St. Joseph’s College Ombaci History

Founded in 1943 by the Comboni Missionaries, St. Joseph’s College Ombaci began as a technical school to equip World War II returnees with vocational skills like automotive mechanics, bricklaying, and carpentry. In 1960, it expanded to offer O-Level education, followed by A-Level in 1984, becoming one of Uganda’s top five secondary schools in the 1970s and 1980s under Headmaster Father Marco Lino Mich. The Ugandan civil wars (1979–1981 and 1981–1986) disrupted progress, but the school’s resurgence in the 2010s, particularly under Headmaster Andrew Tumwesige (2012–2018), restored its reputation for excellence. Fully registered with the Ministry of Education and Sports, Ombaci continues to build on its Catholic heritage, nurturing generations of leaders.

Vision for Tomorrow

St. Joseph’s College Ombaci aspires to maintain its legacy as a “First Among Equals,” striving for excellence in academic, vocational, and spiritual development. We aim to expand our facilities, enhance alumni networking, and further elevate academic standards to prepare students for leadership in Uganda and beyond. By fostering a faith-centered environment and embracing stakeholder feedback, we seek to create opportunities for our students to thrive in a dynamic world, continuing to produce professionals who shape society with integrity and purpose.
