Makerere Day and Evening School for Adults (MAECA) is Uganda’s first school dedicated to educating adults who never completed formal schooling, up to A-Level. Founded in 1996, MAECA provides flexible learning opportunities for adults seeking to achieve primary, O-Level, or A-Level qualifications while balancing work and other responsibilities.

Makerere Day and Evening School for Adults Academics

MAECA operates in three flexible shifts—morning, afternoon, and evening—to accommodate adult learners’ schedules. Students who left school at various levels can join the shift that best fits their needs, whether they dropped out in primary or secondary school. The school emphasizes continuous learning, even during regular school holidays, and offers a tuition system that allows for monthly or quarterly payments.

MAECA encourages social interaction and holistic development through organized outings and events where students from different shifts can engage, collaborate, and build networks.
