Gombe Secondary School, founded in 1924, is one of Uganda’s oldest schools and is located in Gombe Town Council, Butambala District. Established by the Buganda Government, the school was designed to educate children of chiefs and disadvantaged Muslim families in the region. The school emphasizes holistic education, integrating academics, practical skills, character formation, and spiritual growth. Its rich history includes significant events like the planting of a commemorative tree by Kabaka Muteesa II, still present at the main gate. Gombe SS aims to produce well-rounded, confident, and morally grounded graduates.

Gombe Secondary School Academics

Gombe Secondary School follows the National Curriculum Development Centre syllabus, preparing students for UNEB examinations at both “O” and “A” Level. The Lower Secondary Curriculum (S.1–S.4) offers up to 18 subjects in early years and 10 in senior classes, while the Advanced Curriculum (S.5–S.6) allows up to three principal and two subsidiary subjects. The school emphasizes academic excellence, particularly in sciences and vocational skills, ensuring alignment with Uganda’s educational standards. Practical skills are taught in ICT, bakery and pastry, commercial artefacts, and farming, with certification by the Directorate of Industrial Training. Teachers provide guidance to foster critical thinking, analytical skills, and lifelong learning habits among students.

The campus includes a school mosque, boarding facilities, water reservoirs, and school buses for transport during academic trips.
