Welcome to Namilyango College (NACO) — Uganda’s oldest and one of its most prestigious boys’ boarding schools. Established in 1902 by the Mill Hill Missionaries, the College stands proudly on the scenic Namilyango Hill in Mukono District, about 19 kilometers east of Kampala. For over a century, Namilyango College has been a cradle of academic excellence, discipline, and leadership, producing generations of men who have shaped Uganda and the region. Guided by the motto Nisi Dominus (“Without the Lord”), the school remains dedicated to nurturing faith, intellect, and service in every student.
Namilyango College offers both “O” and “A” Level education with a wide range of subjects in the sciences and arts. At O’Level, subjects include Biology, Chemistry, Christian Religious Education, Commerce, Computer Studies, English Language and Literature, Fine Art, French, Geography, History, Mathematics, Physics, Political Education, and Technical Drawing. At A’Level, students specialize in either Arts or Science combinations. Arts subjects include History, Economics, Divinity, French, Literature in English, Geography, and Fine Art, while Science subjects include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, and Technical Drawing. Subsidiary Mathematics and General Paper are compulsory for all students. The College was a pioneer in Information Technology education in Uganda, having established one of the first computer laboratories in the country. Through a rigorous curriculum and a dedicated teaching staff, Namilyango College continues to uphold its reputation for academic excellence and innovation.
Beyond academics, Namilyango College is renowned for its vibrant co-curricular and sports culture. The school has a long and proud history in athletics, especially in rugby, where it has won numerous national championships and remains a dominant force. In earlier decades, Namilyango was also a powerhouse in boxing before the sport was discontinued in the early 1990s. Today, students participate in a variety of games including football, volleyball, basketball, and athletics. The College also promotes cultural and leadership development through clubs, debates, music, drama, and religious activities. These programs help students discover their talents, develop confidence, and cultivate teamwork and discipline — core values that define the Namilyango spirit.
The Namilyango College campus blends historical charm with modern infrastructure. It has ten residential houses for “O” Level students and a hostel for “A” Level students known as Minderop Hostel, named after Father James Minderop (MHM), the first Headmaster. The school boasts spacious classrooms, well-equipped science and computer laboratories, a modern library, and dedicated facilities for sports and recreation. The serene hilltop setting provides an ideal atmosphere for study, reflection, and personal development, while the boarding houses foster camaraderie, discipline, and lifelong friendships among students.
Founded by the Catholic Mill Hill Fathers to educate the sons of chiefs, Namilyango College has grown into a leading national institution known for its holistic education. The College combines strong academic traditions with spiritual and moral guidance, instilling in students the values of responsibility, integrity, and excellence. Situated about 8 kilometers southwest of Mukono town and 3.2 kilometers south of Seeta trading center, the serene campus offers a conducive environment for learning, reflection, and growth. Over the decades, Namilyango College has maintained a legacy of academic brilliance and sports dominance, producing some of Uganda’s most distinguished leaders, professionals, and sportsmen.
