Our Lady of Good Counsel offers both O’ Level and A’ Level education. The A’ Level section was introduced in 2000, initially offering arts subjects, with science subjects added in 2003. In alignment with modern educational reforms, the school implemented the New Lower Secondary curriculum in 2020, teaching 12 core subjects. Academic instruction is supplemented with regular examinations, seminars, and workshops to ensure students remain engaged and assess their understanding. The school also hosts a wide variety of academic clubs including the Computer Club, Art Club, Servers Club, French Club, Debate Club, Young Farmers, and Home Economics Club, which provide platforms for practical application of knowledge and skills.

Co-curricular activities form an integral part of student life at Our Lady of Good Counsel. Students are encouraged to participate in sports, music, drama, clubs, and societies to enhance discipline, health, and teamwork. School clubs include Patriotism, Drama Club, Musicians Club, Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement, Pro-Life Movement, Legion of Mary, Xaverian Movement, Scouts, Red Cross, Girl Guides, Wildlife, YCS, Youth Alive, Alpha, and Teen STAR. The school emphasizes holistic development, providing practical hands-on skills such as gardening, where students grow vegetables, beans, potatoes, and bananas to supplement the school menu.

The school is equipped with modern facilities that support both academic and residential life. These include classrooms, a school truck, a borehole, water tanks, a water purifier, and a standby generator. The medical team conducts termly health examinations for all students and ensures routine treatment is available for those who need it. Boarding facilities cater to students living on campus, providing a structured and supportive environment conducive to learning and personal growth.
Our Lady Of Good Counsel History
Our Lady of Good Counsel Senior Secondary School is a Catholic-founded, government-aided, day and boarding mixed senior secondary school located in Gayaza. The school was established in 1958 through the merger of two junior day schools, St. Andrews for boys and St. Bernadette for girls. In 1967, when Junior Secondary Education was abolished, the schools were combined and converted into a secondary school, named after the Patron Saint of Gayaza Parish. From its modest beginnings with seven staff members and 78 students, the school has grown to serve over 1,100 students with a dedicated staff of 130. The school’s vision is to provide quality, affordable, and holistic education, while its mission is to mold God-fearing, academically successful, and morally upright citizens. Over the decades, the school has produced graduates renowned for integrity, discipline, and academic excellence.
